RAETECH's line of load cells demanded a precision strain gage amplifier capable of withstanding harsh environments including; vibration, shock, dust, and temperature extremes. We developed our PC programmable miniature amplifier to meet those needs with expanded temperature and input voltage specifications.

RAETECH's Miniature Programmable S.G. Amplifier is small and robust enough to be mounted near the strain gage bridge thereby minimizing noise interference and the influence of lead resistance. The amplifier can often be integrated into the sensor body.

Our strain gage amplifiers incorporate a low pass filter in hardware and RAETECH can supply S.G. Amplifiers pre-programmed to customer gain and offset requirements.

Accurate temperature compensation is often the most difficult hurdle to leap in strain gauge applications. Small differences in thermal expansion between a strain gauge and the base part can result in significant zero drift. Modulus variations due to temperature can contribute to errors in gain. For instance the modulus of aluminum can change over 7% in a 90οC span. RAETECH's PC programmable amplifier digitally stores a component-specific temperature correction profile that provides customized zero drift and gain compensation throughout the full operating range.

Digital temperature correction eliminates the need for compensation resistors, terminal strips, wires and their associated space requirements thus it reduces system complexity and cost while enhancing accuracy and reliability. An internal temperature sensor is incorporated for use when the unit is mounted near the bridge and a convenient connection point is provided for a remote temperature sensor.

For applications that require precision gain accuracy, for example;

  • When Dead Weight or Shunt calibrations are not appropriate.
  • When it is desirable to change the active gain without re-calibrating.

RAETECH offers an individually calibrated 'High Precision' option for our Strain Gage Amplifiers.

All this capability is supplied in a durable, sealed package no larger than a thumbnail. Two enclosures are available for remote installations; the In-line Housing includes wire pigtails for your connectors and the Tubular Housing includes integrated Deutsch® connectors. A Screw Terminal Enclosure is now available.

S.G. Amplifiers are available pre-programmed or an optional USB Programmer allows viewing, editing and transferring strain gage amplifier setups. Amplifier Gain, Offset and Temperature tables can be adjusted with a Windows® computer. No additional wires are required to program the amplifier. All communications takes place using only the power, signal and ground leads.
