RAETECH Motorsports' Shaft Torque Load Cell provides a quick and simple solution to a historically difficult task, measuring steering wheel effort. The load cell is designed to provide a simple bolt-in installation with no required modifications. The sensor simply clamps over any existing 3/4" (19mm), 20mm, 25mm or 1" dia. steering shaft.
RAETECH's Clamp-on Torque Sensor will fit NASCAR® Cup, Truck and Nationwide® vehicles as well as any other application with a 3/4" (19mm), 20mm, 25mm or 1" dia. steering shaft. The sensor can be installed and removed with no steering column disassembly. Steering wheel torques up to 35 ft*lb (47 N*m) are easily measured.
All RAETECH load cells incorporate our SG Amplifier to provide a high level amplified output of 0.1 - 4.9V. This eliminates the need for external signal conditioning and greatly reduces the chances of EMI / RFI noise that can be picked up on low level strain gage signals. The SG Amplifier continuously measures the load cell temperature and compensates for temperature induced drift of the zero and gain. This feature ensures stable and accurate operation over a wide operating range. The zero offset and gain/load range may be customer configured, with an optional SG Amp Programmer and PC.
When used with our tie rod load sensors, steering torque and tie rod load data can provide valuable insight to power steering system performance.

- 1Sensor Output must be measured during installation Clamp bolt torque distribution influences sensor output. Bolts must be tightened in alternate steps to minimize installation-induced zero shift. Zero drift is quoted after part is clamped on shaft and cycled full scale each direction four times.
- 2Individual Calibrations are supplied with each Load Cell.
- 3In an overload situation , the sensor will slip on the shaft.
